Emotional intelligence and work engagement: a serial mediation model

Purpose Emotional intelligence (EI) plays a vital role in work and non-work outcomes. Gaps exist the of contextual factor (i.e. perceived organisational support, POS) personal resource psychological capital, PsyCap) investigating employees’ EI. This current research draws on cognitive–motivational–reactional theory emotions conservation resources examining serial explanatory pathways between EI engagement. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected at three points measurement from public sector Nigeria. The authors tested their mediation model with sample 528 employees using PROCESS macro bias-corrected bootstrapping method. Findings findings show that was positively related to exerted an indirect effect PsyCap via POS. engagement serially mediated by POS PsyCap. Practical implications Organisations need pay attention level support they provide employees, given differ emotional appraisal regulations. way perceive is helping them stimulate towards goals. study further accentuates fact emotionally intelligent tend understand how manage others leads higher Originality/value paper addresses gaps literature regulations changing challenging world work.
